报告摘要：

  Coordinate metrology is the inverse process of manufacturing. Manufacturing constructs a work-piece on the basis of plans. Metrology measures a work-piece and tries to recover the plans. We discuss in this presentation how to compute geometric objects from measured points. We concentrate on least squares methods for lines, rectangles, circles and ellipses and emphasize the use of the geometric distance, which leads to Euclidian-invariant algorithms. We make use of the singular value decomposition (SVD) and of Gauss-Newton-Iteration to solve nonlinear least squares problems.

报告人简介：

  Walter Gander教授是苏黎世联邦理工学院计算机科学系荣休教授，自1987年起在该系任教，1991年晋升为正教授。他是ETH计算机科学系的早期建设者之一，曾于1989年至1997年担任科学计算研究所所长，1990至1992年担任计算机科学系主任，1997至2001年任系主任及教学主管。此外，他曾担任瑞士国家超级计算机评估委员会主席，成功促成了瑞士国家超级计算中心的建立及首台国家级超级计算机的引入。他在科学计算、数值线性代数与并行计算等领域成果丰硕，发表学术论文70余篇，出版专著7部。2002年被选为巴伐利亚科学院通讯院士，2007年当选为瑞士工程科学院院士。
